Have you made the decision to enter sports medicine as a sportsman? Its not uncommon for individuals to consider this as an easy field to get in. It looks easy when you see an Athletic coach sprint on the field to help with a flushed ankle. The reality is very different. An Athletic Trainer Education is demanding. Career is very rewarding both personally and economically, but requires intensive preparation. Lets take a look at some of the requirements you will meet.
Educational options for your sports education level
You have two basic options for your Athletic Major.
Bachelors degree in sports education
Masters degree in sports education
The bachelors degree required for certification is currently offered by 342 different colleges and universities around the United States. The Masters programs are more limited with only 24 programs currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Educational Training (CAATE).
Usually, the college offering a masters degree program offers students with non-related bachelors degrees to the program. If you have an existing degree and wish to change your career and become a Trainer then it will be the fastest way. The sports programs will contain a combination of classroom training and practical clinical experience.
Athletic trainer schools are found in almost all states in the country, making it very easy to start.
Meet all requirements for certification
Education requirements are based on two critical factors. The first factor is the rules specified by CAATE. All programs must meet these standards. The second factor is the matching license or certification requirement. Many states accept national certification while other states have local guidelines that must be met.
There is another important factor for you to be prepared for. Even after you graduate with your certification, you will have an ongoing education requirement. The National Athletics Training Association (NATA) requires recertification and further training. This includes an acute cardiac treatment module.
This is a career choice that requires you to keep your skills sharp, focused and ready for quick action.

Each college will have little variation in the curriculum, but you can be sure to take many of the following classes:
